About

Baker Creek State Park occupies land leased from the US Army Corps of Engineers along the scenic shores of Strom Thurmond Lake in McCormick County. The park's 34-site campground includes 32 standard sites and 2 tent sites, providing a peaceful retreat for campers seeking waterfront access and outdoor recreation. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the lake and surrounding natural areas. Visitors can enjoy kayaking in the estuary where Baker Creek spills into the lake, spotting turtles, fish, ospreys, various duck species, egrets, kingfishers, barn swallows, red-winged blackbirds, woodpeckers, and Great Blue Herons. The park is recognized as a base camp for the South Carolina Blueway trail system, making it popular among paddlers. For land-based recreation, the park features 10 miles of mountain bike trails winding through serene Piedmont forest, offering views of the lake and opportunities to observe wildlife including abundant wild turkey. A lakefront pavilion accommodates group gatherings and is an ideal spot to catch South Carolina sunsets. All campers have access to restrooms with hot showers, and the park provides boat ramp access to the 70,000-acre Strom Thurmond Lake.
