About
Parksville Recreation Area is a wooded day-use facility managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the shores of J. Strom Thurmond Lake in McCormick County, South Carolina. The 70,000-acre lake offers boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing for largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish, and striped bass. The area features two reservable group picnic shelters: Beach Shelter accommodates up to 90 people and includes electrical hookups, while Hillside Shelter holds up to 36 people without electricity. Additional amenities include flush toilets, drinking water, a boat ramp, dock, playground, swimming beach, and grassy field. This is strictly a day-use facility with no overnight camping. Park hours are 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. A $7 per vehicle entry fee applies, payable by credit card at the gatehouse. USACE Annual Pass and America the Beautiful passes are accepted. Pets are allowed on leash but prohibited on the swimming beach. Fires and alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
