About
Sockeye Campground sits at the end of Forest Road 214 on the western shore of Redfish Lake, one of the most iconic destinations in Idaho's Sawtooth National Recreation Area. The 23 campsites, including 6 double-sites, are scattered through a lodgepole pine forest with easy access to the lake's clear waters. The campground operates entirely on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations available. Redfish Lake is named for the sockeye salmon that once returned here in large numbers, turning the water red during spawning season. Today the lake offers swimming, sailing, waterskiing, canoeing, motorized boating, and fishing for wild cutthroat trout. A boat ramp is located at Sandy Beach on the east shore. The Fishhook Nature Trail provides a short interpretive walk, while longer trails lead west into the Sawtooth Wilderness and its alpine lakes. Three small playgrounds are available for children within the campground. Equestrian stables, a dump station, and boat rentals can be found at the nearby Redfish Lake Lodge. The Idaho Centennial Trail passes near the area for extended hiking opportunities.
