About

Snyder Guard Station is a historic Forest Service cabin nestled in Snyder Basin at the base of Darby Mountain, 22 miles west of Big Piney, Wyoming. Sitting at 8,000 feet in a grassy meadow surrounded by pine trees, the cabin offers views of Riley Ridge and Darby Mountain. The area supports abundant wildlife including moose, elk, mule deer, eagles, and sandhill cranes, with wildflowers coloring the landscape in summer. The cabin sleeps four people with two bunk beds and mattresses. Amenities include propane heat and lights, a wood burning stove installed in 2018, a kitchen with propane cook stove, cookware, utensils, refrigerator, and sink. An outdoor vault toilet is provided. There is no running water or electricity; guests must bring their own water supply, bedding, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and garbage bags. A horse corral accommodates equestrian visitors. The Wyoming Range National Recreation Trail is accessible nearby for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Nearby streams provide trout fishing. In winter, nearly 100 miles of snowmobile trails are available, along with cross-country skiing and snowshoeing opportunities. Directions

From Big Piney, head west on Wyoming State Highway 350 for approximately 10 miles. Turn left onto South Piney Fish Creek Road/County Road 23-142 and follow it for approximately 10 miles into Bridger-Teton National Forest where the road becomes FS Road 10128. Continue on FS 10128 for approximately 2 miles, veer left at the fork to stay on FS 10128, then 0.6 miles to a second fork veering left. At the third fork 0.01 miles ahead, turn right onto FS 10128A. The cabin is 0.2 miles down on the right. Approximate travel: 23 miles, 38 minutes from Big Piney.
