About

Historic La Barge Guard Station sits in beautiful La Barge Meadow at 8,500 feet elevation in the Hams Fork Area of Bridger-Teton National Forest. Built in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this rustic two-room cabin maintains its authentic character while providing basic amenities for up to six guests. The cabin features propane oven, refrigerator, and lights, plus a wood stove for heat. Three bunk beds with mattresses provide sleeping accommodations, though guests must bring their own bedding and linens. The cabin's setting near La Barge Creek offers exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities, with moose, elk, eagles, and sandhill cranes commonly seen in the area. Vibrant wildflowers color the meadow in summer against a backdrop of pine-covered Commissary Ridge. The Wagner Pass Trail starts behind the cabin, following the historic Lander Cutoff Trail and offering scenic hiking through this part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. La Barge Creek provides trout fishing, and the surrounding area is popular for mountain biking and horseback riding in warmer months. Winter transforms access to snowmobile-only on a 22-mile trail, making the cabin a remote base for snowmobiling and cross country skiing. Winter guests must bring all drinking water, as none is available during cold months. Summer access requires high-clearance vehicles on gravel and dirt roads. The cabin includes a vault toilet located behind the building, and horses are permitted with creek access for watering. No cell phone coverage is available at this remote location.
