About
Historic La Barge Guard Station is a rustic cabin rental located 87 miles north of Kemmerer, Wyoming in the Hams Fork Area of Bridger-Teton National Forest. Constructed in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the cabin sits in beautiful La Barge Meadow at approximately 8,500 feet elevation, surrounded by vibrant summer wildflowers at the base of pine-covered Commissary Ridge. The two-room cabin accommodates up to 6 guests and is equipped with propane range/oven, refrigerator, lights and a wood stove for heat. During summer months, the cabin has running potable water, bathroom sink, shower and kitchen sink. Winter visits require guests to use an outhouse located west of the cabin, as there is no running water available. Pets and horses are welcome at the property. The location offers excellent recreation opportunities year-round. The Wagner Pass Trail begins directly behind the cabin, following the historic Lander Cutoff Historical Trail through scenic terrain. Summer activities include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and trout fishing in nearby La Barge Creek. Winter brings opportunities for snowmobiling and cross country skiing right from the front door, though winter access requires snowmobile travel on a 22-mile trail. Wildlife viewing is exceptional, with moose, elk, eagles and sandhill cranes commonly spotted in the area.
