About
Middle Piney Lake Picnic Site sits on the shores of Middle Piney Lake in the Wyoming Range of Bridger-Teton National Forest. This no-fee day use area is for picnicking and lake access only; overnight camping is not permitted. The site offers spectacular mountain views and access to quality fishing on Middle Piney Lake, where Wyoming Game and Fish regulations allow only non-motorized and electric powered boats. A vault toilet is maintained regularly, but visitors must pack in all supplies and pack out all trash as no water or refuse services are provided. The site features a gravel boat ramp suitable for small boat trailers, though large trailers are not advised on the access road. The trailhead for the Wyoming Range National Recreation Trail and Wyoming Peak begins here, providing access to backcountry hiking opportunities. Located approximately 26 miles west of Big Piney via WY 350 and Forest Service Roads, the site sits at 8,600 feet elevation. In winter, the area is accessible by snowmobile. Visitors are within a short drive of the North Piney Lake ATV trail to the north and the historic Lander Cutoff of the Oregon Trail to the south.
