About

Sacajawea Campground occupies a peaceful, forested setting along Middle Piney Creek in the Big Piney Ranger District of Bridger-Teton National Forest. The campground sits just east of Middle Piney Lake at around 8,000 feet elevation, offering a cool, shaded retreat surrounded by conifers. The sites are relatively private and suited for tent campers and those with smaller trailers. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets and potable water from a hand pump when the system is operational. There are no hookups, dump stations, or trash service; campers must pack out all garbage. A campground host is typically present from July 1 through Labor Day. The area serves as a gateway to the Wyoming Range National Recreation Trail, Middle Piney Lake, North Piney Lake ATV trail, and the historic Lander Cutoff of the Oregon Trail. Access is via a mix of paved and gravel roads from Big Piney, with the final approach on Forest Service roads. The drive takes approximately 40 minutes and covers about 24 miles. The campground sees light use, making it a good option for those seeking solitude in the Wyoming Range.
