About
Sacajawea Campground is located in the Big Piney Ranger District of Bridger-Teton National Forest, positioned along Middle Piney Creek just east of Middle Piney Lake. The campground sits at approximately 8,300 feet elevation in a cool, shaded area surrounded by trees, offering a serene setting in the Wyoming Range. Access requires a scenic 24-mile drive from the town of Big Piney, transitioning from state highway to county road to forest service roads. The campground serves as an ideal base camp for exploring the area's diverse recreational opportunities. Visitors have quick access to the Wyoming Range National Recreation Trail, Middle Piney Lake, North Piney Lake ATV trail, and the historic Lander Cutoff of the Oregon Trail. The surrounding area supports wildlife including mule deer, elk, black bear, beaver, and moose. While the campground has sites large enough for trailers, the remote location and lack of cell service make it better suited for those seeking a more primitive camping experience. Basic amenities include vault toilets, hand-pump drinking water, trash service, and bear-proof food storage. Tables and fire rings are provided at campsites. A campground host is typically present from early July through Labor Day to assist campers. The high elevation means cool temperatures year-round, with nighttime temperatures potentially dropping below freezing even in summer.

Follow FS 10046 for approximately 2 miles, then veer left at the fork onto FS 10024 heading towards Middle Piney Lake. Follow FS 10024 for approximately 0.75 miles to a second fork and veer left again. Continue for less than one mile and turn left onto FS 10137 to access the campground. Total distance from Big Piney is approximately 24 miles.
