About
Built in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, Cazier Cabin serves as a historic Forest Service guard station offering a rustic mountain retreat in the remote Greys River valley. Located approximately 46 miles south of Alpine, Wyoming along Greys River Road, the cabin sits at 7,600 feet elevation near Corral Creek with sweeping views up the Corral Creek drainage. The two-room cabin sleeps eight people on four bunkbeds with mattresses and can accommodate up to five additional guests camping outside. The cabin features a wood stove for heat and basic kitchen amenities including a propane range top, propane refrigerator, sink, and dining table with chairs. During peak summer season (mid-June to Labor Day), the cabin provides drinking water via hand pump, flush toilet, and indoor shower facilities. In winter, guests must bring their own drinking water and use an outdoor vault toilet. The cabin is equipped with solar lighting but has no electricity or cell phone coverage. The Corral Creek Trail provides direct access from the cabin to Corral Creek Lake and connections to Swift, Dry, and Cottonwood Creek drainages. The area offers excellent opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and trout fishing in Greys River. A public use stock corral is available on-site. Summer access is via low-speed gravel road, though spring and fall access depends on weather conditions. Winter access requires snowmobile travel on groomed trails. The nearest town with services is Alpine, 46 miles north.
Directions
From Afton, Wyoming, take Highway 89 north about 31 miles to Alpine. At Alpine, turn right (south) onto Greys River Road (Forest Road 10138) and travel about 46 miles. The cabin is located on the right (west) side of the road. Access is along a low-speed gravel road. Winter access is by snowmobile only on groomed trail.
