About

Smith Rapids Pavilion is a day-use picnicking facility within the larger Smith Rapids Recreation Area on the South Fork of the Flambeau River in northern Wisconsin. The accessible pavilion accommodates groups up to 30 and provides a shaded gathering spot at approximately 1,500 feet elevation. Note that overnight camping is not available at the pavilion; it serves exclusively as a day-use facility. The pavilion offers picnic tables, grills, vault toilets, drinking water, and trash service. It sits near the Smith Rapids Covered Bridge, a unique glue-laminated town lattice covered bridge constructed in 1991. The area provides access to the 18.5-mile Smith River Saddle Equestrian Trail, making it popular with horseback riders seeking a base for day trips. For overnight stays, visitors should reserve sites at the adjacent Smith Rapids Campground, which offers 11 campsites including seven designed for horse camping with tie stalls and trailer parking.

Directions

From the intersection of Highways 13 and 70 in Fifield, drive about 12 miles east on Highway 70 to Forest Service Road 148. Turn left (north) and continue just over a mile on Forest Service Road 148 to the Smith Rapids Campground entrance.
