About

Smith Rapids Campground sits along the South Fork of the Flambeau River at approximately 1,500 feet elevation, offering a rustic camping experience in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The campground features 10 campsites, with seven specifically designed to accommodate horse trailers with extra-long parking spurs ranging from 45+ feet, hitching rails, picnic tables, and fire grills. Three sites are suitable for tent camping or truck campers only. All sites are back-in and do not have hookups or dump stations. The fast-flowing South Fork of the Flambeau River provides excellent fishing opportunities for walleye, smallmouth bass, redhorse, musky, and northern pike. A carry-down boat ramp in the day use area allows canoeists and kayakers to access the river for day float trips with small rapids to navigate. The campground is also located near the 70-mile Flambeau Trail System, popular for off-road vehicles, hiking, mountain biking, and snowmobiling in winter months. A unique feature of this recreation area is the scenic Smith Rapids Covered Bridge, constructed in 1991 as Wisconsin's only glue-laminated town lattice covered bridge. The campground is conveniently located about 17 miles from Park Falls, a full-service community.

Directions
