About

Reynolds Mansion sits on the south end of Sapelo Island, a pristine Georgia barrier island accessible only by ferry. The original mansion was built from tabby by Thomas Spalding in 1810 and served as a plantation manor until the Civil War. After falling into ruin, it was rebuilt by Detroit automotive engineer Howard Coffin in 1912 and later restored as a Georgia State Park facility. The mansion features 10 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, accommodating groups of 16-25 guests. Amenities include marble sculptures, the ornately decorated Circus Room with murals by artist Athos Menaboni, a bowling lane, billiards room, library, tennis court, and disc golf course. All meals are prepared and served by staff. Beach access and island tours, including visits to the 1820s lighthouse, are available. Access requires a 30-minute ferry ride from the Sapelo Island Visitor Center on the mainland. The associated Cabretta Campground, which offered group tent camping with Adirondack shelters, is currently closed due to bridge damage.

Directions

Take the Sapelo Island Ferry from the mainland visitor center located at 1766 Landing Road SE, Darien, GA. The ferry is a 30-minute ride through tidal creeks and Doboy Sound. The visitor center is open Tuesday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
