About

Brickhill Bluff Wilderness Campsite offers a true backcountry experience in Cumberland Island's designated wilderness on the northern part of the island. Located 10.5 miles north of the Sea Camp ferry dock, this primitive campsite requires significant planning and self-sufficiency. The site can be accessed by hiking from the Sea Camp dock, paddling by kayak, or from the Plum Orchard dock if arriving by private boat. With no amenities beyond a pump well providing non-potable water that must be treated, campers must be prepared to pack in all supplies and pack out all trash. The wilderness camping experience at Brickhill Bluff requires adherence to Leave No Trace principles. All food and trash must be stored or hung to protect against raccoons. Fires are strictly prohibited in the wilderness area, though camp stoves are permitted for cooking. The site accommodates up to 6 people per permit, with a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights. Ferry access from the mainland operates on a limited winter schedule with no service on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from December through February. Campers are responsible for transporting all gear from the dock without wheeled carts or coolers.

Directions

Accessible only by boat. Ferry passengers must deboard at Sea Camp dock and hike 10.5 miles north via island trails. Private boaters can use Plum Orchard dock. Kayakers can paddle directly to the site. Mainland ferry departs from St. Marys Visitor Center at 101 Wheeler St, St. Marys, GA 31558.
