About
Sinks Canyon Campground sits in the heart of one of Wyoming's most geologically fascinating areas, where the Popo Agie River (pronounced puh-POE-zhuh) vanishes into a limestone cavern and resurfaces a half-mile downstream. The 14-site campground is nestled between Hugh Otte Camping Area and Sinks Canyon State Park, offering a quieter alternative while maintaining easy access to the canyon's attractions. The campground provides basic amenities including a vault toilet, potable water from a hand pump, picnic tables, and cook grates at each site. Bear boxes are provided as food storage is mandatory per the Shoshone National Forest Food Storage Order. Sites accommodate trailers up to 20 feet maximum. Recreation opportunities abound, with world-class rock climbing on nearby Forest Service and BLM lands, fishing on the Popo Agie River, and access to the Popo Agie Wilderness via a nearby trailhead. The 16-day stay limit allows for extended climbing trips or backcountry exploration.
Directions
From Lander, drive approximately 8.5 miles south on State Highway 131.
