Big Atlantic Gulch Campground
Open for the 2026 season as of May 20, opening earlier than typical due to below-average snowpack. First-come, first-served with a 14-day stay limit. Season typically runs through October 31.
About
Big Atlantic Gulch Campground sits in Wyoming's historic South Pass area, a region rich in gold mining history and outdoor recreation opportunities. Located just one mile from Highway 28 on the west side of Atlantic City Road, the campground provides convenient access to the nearby ghost towns of Atlantic City and South Pass City. The BLM-managed campground features 10 campsites equipped with fire rings and picnic tables. Vault toilets and garbage collection are provided, and potable water is available when weather permits. The site is ADA accessible and can accommodate medium-sized recreational vehicles. An on-site host is occasionally present during the season. This is bear country, so proper food storage is essential. The typical season runs from June 1 through October 31, though opening dates vary with snowpack conditions. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a 14-day stay limit.
Directions
From Highway 28, turn onto Atlantic City Road. The campground is located 1 mile from the highway on the west side of the road.
