About

Popo Agie Campground is situated within Sinks Canyon State Park in west central Wyoming, about six miles southwest of Lander in the Wind River Mountains. The campground offers 24 primitive campsites nestled under trees along the middle fork of the Popo Agie River, providing a quiet riverside camping experience. The park is named for distinct geologic phenomena where the Popo Agie River disappears into a limestone cavern and reappears a quarter mile down canyon in a pool filled with large rainbow trout. Campsites are designed for tents and small trailers or campers, with very limited availability for large trailers due to the small site sizes. Each site includes a picnic table and fire pit. The campground provides vault toilets and seasonal potable water pumps. Firewood is available by donation. The location offers direct access to hiking trails, world-class rock climbing areas, mountain bike trails, fishing opportunities, and wildlife viewing. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the unique geology, diverse habitats, and recreational opportunities throughout Sinks Canyon State Park.

Directions

From Lander, head south on State Highway 131, then continue on Forest Road 300 for approximately 23 miles to reach the campground.
