About

Silver Lake Campground sits on the shore of Silver Lake, part of the Withlacoochee River system within the 165,000-acre Withlacoochee State Forest in Hernando County. The campground features 23 developed sites with water and electric hookups, accommodating both RVs and tents. Sites range from 30 to 50 feet in length and include pull-through and back-in options. The facility provides modern amenities including a bathhouse and dump station. The campground is adjacent to the Silver Lake Day-Use Area, which offers a picnic shelter and boat ramp for accessing the lake. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring with grate. Three sites feature enhanced accessibility. The surrounding forest showcases diverse ecosystems including open pine sand hills, dense woodlands, and cypress-lined waterways designated as Outstanding Florida Waters. Recreational opportunities abound with direct access to hiking and biking trails, the Withlacoochee State Trail, and excellent fishing and boating. Wildlife viewing opportunities include bald eagles, fox squirrels, gopher tortoises, white-tailed deer, and wild turkeys. The forest was ranked number one on the World Wildlife Fund's list of coolest places in North America. Note that due to the convenient location near I-75, some road noise may be audible at times.
