Crooked River Group Camp sits within the Croom Tract of Withlacoochee State Forest, approximately 5 miles from I-75 near Brooksville in Hernando County. This single tent-only group site is part of the Silver Lake Recreation Complex and is reserved exclusively for organized youth groups including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and church groups. The site accommodates up to 30 people and features a fire ring with grate and grill, picnic tables, and access to a bathhouse with restrooms. The campground is positioned on the shore of Silver Lake, which connects to the Withlacoochee River system, offering excellent opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. A boat ramp provides water access. Hiking and biking trails are nearby, including connections to the Withlacoochee State Trail. The natural vegetative screening between sites provides privacy in this classic Florida flatwoods setting. This is a primitive camping experience with no electric, water, or sewer hookups available at the site. Campers should come prepared for tent camping conditions. Leashed pets are allowed with proof of rabies vaccination. Quiet hours are 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM, and fires are only permitted in designated fire rings.
