Buttgenbach Campground at Croom Motorcycle Area is Florida's premier destination for off-road motorcycle and ATV enthusiasts, located within the Withlacoochee State Forest in Hernando County, just 20 minutes northeast of Brooksville. The campground features 51 spacious sites with water and electric hookups (30 and 50 amp service), specifically designed with extra room to accommodate trailers carrying off-road vehicles. The surrounding Croom Motorcycle Area spans 2,600 acres and offers an extensive network of marked and unmarked trails for dirt bikes and ATVs. The facility includes a technical riding area (open Friday through Sunday) with motocross, trials, and kids' motocross sections, plus beginner and intermediate training areas and a large training pavilion available for rent. Day-use areas provide picnic facilities and restrooms throughout the riding area. Campground amenities include two bathhouses with showers and restrooms, an ATV/dirt bike wash station, picnic tables, fire rings, and a dump station. Each site can accommodate a maximum of one RV and one tent, or two tents. All campers must purchase an annual OHV pass for each unit entering the facility. The campground is managed by the Florida Forest Service and requires reservations through Reserve America, available up to 11 months in advance. Gate access is controlled, with combinations provided at the gatehouse upon arrival before 5 p.m.
Directions
From I-75: Take Exit 301 (SR-50/US 98 South), head west and turn right (north) onto La Rose Road. Continue to the Croom Motorcycle Area gatehouse. From Suncoast Parkway: Take Exit 46 (SR-50), head east through Brooksville following SR-50 Truck Route, then turn left (north) on La Rose Road just before I-75.
