Short Mountain Cove sits along the shady banks of Robert S. Kerr Reservoir within the scenic Cookson Hills of eastern Oklahoma. This U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground offers 42 campsites with electric hookups, providing a pleasant mixture of sun and shade with many waterfront spaces. The facility includes a boat ramp with courtesy dock for easy water access, two playgrounds, a basketball goal, and modern amenities. Robert S. Kerr Reservoir has long been recognized for outstanding fishing, with the 43,000-acre lake producing record-size crappie, sand bass, catfish, and black bass. The reservoir's 250 miles of shoreline offer exceptional opportunities for boating, kayaking, and exploring by water. Hiking trails wind throughout the surrounding hills and along the shoreline, providing diverse recreation options. The reservoir is located on the Arkansas River, impounded by Robert S. Kerr Lock and Dam as part of the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System. The campground is approximately eight miles south of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, in LeFlore County within the Choctaw Nation. Gates open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 10:00 p.m. daily, with quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Camping is limited to 14 consecutive days within any 30-day period.

Directions

From Fort Smith, AR, travel 22 miles west on I-40, then 8 miles south on US 59. Turn west onto a paved county road and follow signs to the campground.
