About
Cowlington Point sits on a small peninsula along the shady southern banks of Robert S. Kerr Reservoir, a 43,000-acre impoundment on the Arkansas River in eastern Oklahoma's Cookson Hills. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the campground provides 38 campsites offering a mix of electric hookups and non-electric sites, along with two boat ramps, courtesy docks, a playground, volleyball court, and a group picnic shelter. Water hookups are available at sites, though some sites share spigots with adjacent neighbors. Robert S. Kerr Reservoir has long been recognized as one of Oklahoma's premier fishing destinations, with over 250 miles of shoreline supporting record-size crappie, sand bass, catfish, and black bass. The reservoir is part of the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System and sits just below the confluence of the Canadian and Arkansas rivers. Boating and kayaking are popular activities, with easy water access from the campground's boat ramps. Hiking trails wind through the surrounding hills and along the shoreline, offering additional recreation for campers. The campground operates seasonally from spring through fall, with typical hours from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
