Safety, caution urged during hunting season
With hunting season underway, the National Forests in Mississippi is reminding all forest visitors to exercise caution and safety when visiting a national forest. Hunting is a safe, recreational sport. Some visitors, however, are sometimes surprised when they meet hunters on the forest.
Forest Closure Orders
The following are summaries of prohibited acts on the National Forests in Mississippi. A copy of each of the Forest Supervisor's Orders can be obtained from the Supervisor's Office in Jackson or any one of the six Ranger District Offices.

Shockaloe Trail Base Camp II serves as a day-use staging area for riders, hikers, and mountain bikers traveling the 23-mile Shockaloe Horse Trail, a nationally recognized trail listed in the National Register of Trails. The facility is located in Bienville National Forest's characteristic piney woods environment, offering convenient access to a trail system that showcases over 60 years of forest management practices. The base camp provides five pull-through parking spaces suitable for trucks and trailers, a group pavilion available for daily rental at $40, and hitching rails for horses. Amenities include vault toilets and drinking water available from a hand pump. The site is located approximately 8 miles northwest of Forest on Forest Service Road 513, about 5 miles north of Base Camp I. It is important to note that overnight camping is not permitted at Base Camp II. Camping is only allowed at Base Camp I, located further south on the same forest road. Base Camp II is strictly a day-use area for parking, picnicking, and trail access. The facility operates seasonally from March 1 through December 15. Self-contained RVs may use the parking area during day use, but restroom facilities may be closed periodically.

Located 8 miles northwest of Forest, Mississippi on Forest Service Road 513. Base Camp II is approximately 5 miles north of Base Camp I on the same forest road, just north of U.S. Highway 80.
