Shockaloe Trail Base Camp 1 serves as the primary overnight camping location for the nationally recognized Shockaloe Trail, listed in the National Register of Trails. Located in the northern half of Bienville National Forest between Forest and Morton, Mississippi, this 22-mile trail takes riders through diverse terrains and vegetation types, offering views of timber management practices, superior trees, flatland hardwoods, wildlife openings, and endangered species habitat. The base camp features a pavilion and open parking area suitable for horse trailers. Camping is permitted only at Base Camp 1 (not Base Camp 2), with a 14-day stay limit. The facility operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Payment can be made via the Recreation.gov mobile app's Scan and Pay feature, though cash or check should be brought as backup since cellular service is limited. The trail is open to horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, and day hiking. Alcoholic beverages and ATVs are prohibited. Visitors are advised to wear orange or bright-colored clothing during deer hunting season.

Directions

The Shockaloe Trail is located on the Bienville National Forest between Forest, MS and Morton, MS, just north of U.S. Highway 80. Base Camp 1 is located 0.25 mile north of U.S. Hwy. 80 on Forest Service Road 513.
