About
Shellrock Creek Campground delivers a genuine backcountry experience in the Clackamas River Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest. Situated on the banks of Shellrock Creek, which flows into the Oak Grove Fork and eventually the Clackamas River, the campground offers secluded sites separated by dense forest growth. The tranquil sound of the small brook can be heard throughout the camping area. This is primitive camping at its finest, with no developed amenities. There is no potable water, no restrooms, and no trash service. Campers must bring all water and supplies and pack out all waste. The campground is accessed via Forest Roads 57 and 58, with a strict 16-foot vehicle maximum due to the narrow, winding access road. The surrounding area offers opportunities for hiking and exploring the forested landscape. During winter months, the nearby area off Forest Road 57 is open to cross-country skiers and snowmobile enthusiasts.
Directions
From Sandy, travel southeast on Highway 26 past Government Camp to Forest Road 42. Follow FR 42 south across the Warm Springs Indian Reservation and back into the national forest to Forest Road 57. Head west on FR 57 for approximately 7 miles to Forest Road 58, turn north and continue about half a mile to the campground.
