Sheep Creek Campground occupies a stunning location on the floor of Kings Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in North America. Situated at 4,600 feet elevation beside the confluence of the South Fork of the Kings River and Sheep Creek, the campground is surrounded by towering granite walls, ponderosa pines, and incense cedars. The sound of the river provides a constant backdrop for camping. The campground features 111 sites spread along paved roads, making access straightforward for both tents and RVs up to 30 feet. Each site includes a fire ring, picnic table, and large bear-proof food storage locker. Five comfort stations with flush toilets, drinking water, and dish-washing sinks are distributed throughout. There are no hookups or dump stations on site; the nearest dump station is at Princess Campground near the Hume Lake junction. Cedar Grove Village, located 0.25 miles from the campground, offers a convenience store, snack bar, showers, and laundry. The area provides excellent hiking to destinations like Mist Falls, Zumwalt Meadow, and Cedar Grove Overlook. Fishing for trout in the Kings River and horseback rides through the Cedar Grove Pack Station are also available.

Directions

From Fresno, CA, follow California State Highway 180 East to Cedar Grove. Sheep Creek Campground is on the left (north) side of the road, 0.25 miles before Cedar Grove Visitor Center. Vehicles over 22 feet should use the Kings Canyon National Park entrance rather than entering through Sequoia National Park.
