About
Convict Flat Campground offers a quiet, no-fee camping experience in the Kings Canyon area of Sequoia National Forest. This small campground features just 5 sites suitable for tents and small to midsize trailers, making it an intimate base for exploring the dramatic granite landscapes of Kings Canyon. Located at 3,000 feet elevation along scenic Highway 180, approximately 19 miles northeast of Grant Grove and just before Boyden Cave, the campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own. The campground is managed by the U.S. Forest Service under an interagency agreement with the National Park Service, which collects the standard amenity fee at park entrance stations. While there are no camping fees at Convict Flat itself, campfire permits are required for all campfires, barbecues, and camp stoves. The location provides convenient access to fishing opportunities along nearby streams and serves as a practical stopover for visitors traveling deeper into Kings Canyon National Park.
