About

Convict Flat Campground is a small, primitive campground located in Kings Canyon along Highway 180, approximately 19 miles northeast of Grant Grove and just before Boyden Cave. At 3,000 feet elevation, this is one of the lower-elevation camping options in the area, set in an open, non-forested landscape with views of granite cliffs. The campground offers five sites suitable for tents and small to midsize trailers on a first-come, first-served basis with no camping fee. Each site includes a fire pit and picnic table. Vault toilets and trash receptacles are provided, but campers must bring their own water as none is available on-site. A campfire permit is required for campfires, barbecues, and camp stoves, available free online at readyforwildfire.org. The campground typically operates from late April through early November, though exact dates vary depending on snowmelt and weather conditions. Highway 180, managed by Caltrans, may close during winter weather. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and pets must be kept on a 6-foot leash.

Directions

Take Highway 180 east into Kings Canyon. The campground is 19 miles northeast of Grant Grove, located just before Boyden Cave.
