Moraine Campground

Closed — Closed for the season due to ongoing road repairs. The campground does not currently have a determined reopening date but typically operates from May through October when open. Reservations for Moraine Campground can be made up to one month in advance when operations resume.

Moraine Campground in Cedar Grove is nestled in the stunning Kings Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the United States. Located at 4,600 feet elevation along the South Fork of the Kings River, the campground sits under stands of evergreen trees with tall granite mountainsides rising on either side. The sound of the river and glowing mountainsides just beyond the trees create a peaceful setting for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The campground offers 121 sites, all reservation-only, with bear-proof food storage lockers at each site. Cedar Grove provides abundant hiking opportunities from easy riverside walks like the Kanawyer Loop and Zumwalt Meadow to more challenging day hikes to Mist Falls and Cedar Grove Overlook. The Kings River offers trout fishing, and the Cedar Grove Pack Station provides scenic horseback rides through the canyon. Cedar Grove Village, located 0.75 miles away, offers showers, a market, and other services during the operating season. Streams and creeks feed the Kings River with snowmelt from higher elevations, while abundant wildlife roams through the tall ponderosa pine and incense cedar trees, meadows, and riversides. Hikes into the backcountry from Cedar Grove provide access to the deeper wilderness of Kings Canyon National Park.

Directions

From Fresno, follow California State Highway 180 East to Cedar Grove. Moraine Campground is located on the left (north) side of the road 0.75 miles east of Cedar Grove Village. Vehicles over 22 feet should use the Kings Canyon National Park entrance rather than entering through Sequoia National Park.
