Sentinel Campground

About

Sentinel Campground occupies a prime location in Cedar Grove, nestled within one of the deepest canyons in North America. The campground sits along the South Fork of the Kings River at 4,600 feet elevation, shaded by ponderosa pine and incense cedar. A central meadow provides open views of the surrounding granite mountainsides. The campground contains 82 sites accessible via paved roads, accommodating both tents and RVs up to 82 feet, though most sites are sized for vehicles 20-30 feet. Five comfort stations provide flush toilets, dishwashing sinks, and drinking water. Each site includes a fire ring, picnic table, and large bear-proof food storage locker. There are no hookups or dump stations on-site; the nearest dump station is at Princess Campground in Sequoia National Forest. Cedar Grove serves as a gateway to excellent day hikes including Mist Falls, Zumwalt Meadow, and the Kanawyer Loop. The Cedar Grove Visitor Center is adjacent to the campground, and Cedar Grove Village across the street provides showers, laundry, a camp store, and snack bar when open. Trout fishing in the Kings River and horseback rides through the Cedar Grove Pack Station round out the recreational options.

Directions

From Fresno, take California Highway 180 East for approximately 55 miles to Cedar Grove. Sentinel Campground is on the left (north) side of the road in the village, 31 miles from the Kings Canyon Park entrance.
