About
Sentinel Campground in Cedar Grove is nestled deep within Kings Canyon, one of the most spectacular canyons in North America. Located along the South Fork of the Kings River at 4,600 feet elevation, the campground is surrounded by towering granite mountainsides, open stands of ponderosa pine and incense cedar, and peaceful meadows. The 82-site campground features paved roads throughout, making it accessible to a variety of camping setups. Cedar Grove offers exceptional hiking opportunities for all skill levels. Day hikers can explore trails to Mist Falls, Cedar Grove Overlook, the tranquil Kanawyer Loop along the Kings River, and through Zumwalt Meadow. The area also provides excellent trout fishing in the Kings River and horseback riding through Cedar Grove Pack Station. Wildlife is abundant throughout the canyon, and the backcountry beyond offers even more remote wilderness experiences. The campground is conveniently located next to Cedar Grove Visitor Center and within a quarter mile of Cedar Grove Village, which offers a market, restaurant, gift shop, showers, and laundry facilities. Each campsite includes a fire ring, picnic table, and large bear-proof food storage box. Five comfort stations throughout the campground provide flush toilets, dish-washing sinks, and drinking water. Ranger-led programs and campfire talks are typically offered during the summer season.
Directions
From Fresno, follow California State Highway 180 East for approximately 60 miles to Cedar Grove in Kings Canyon National Park. Sentinel Campground is located 31 miles from the park entrance on the left (north) side of the road in Cedar Grove Village, next to the visitor center.
