About

Canyon View Group Campground sits at 4,600 feet elevation in the Cedar Grove area of Kings Canyon National Park, 32 miles from the park entrance along Highway 180. Named for its excellent views of Kings Canyon's towering granite cliffs, including North Dome and Grand Sentinel which rise 3,500 feet above the canyon floor, the campground occupies a cedar and ponderosa pine forest along the South Fork of the Kings River. The campground features 16 group sites divided into 12 mid-sized sites accommodating 7-19 people and 4 large sites for groups of 20-40 people. This is strictly a tent-only facility; RVs and trailers are not permitted. Each site includes picnic tables, fire rings, and bear-proof food storage lockers. Site C is designated accessible with four accessible tent pads, fire rings with accessible grills, extended picnic tables, and accessible routes to parking and restrooms. Cedar Grove provides some of the best hiking trails in Kings Canyon National Park, especially near Roads End. Nearby attractions include Mist Falls, Zumwalt Meadow, Roaring River Falls, and excellent trout fishing in the Kings River. The area experiences warm summer days and cool nights. Black bears are active in the area, and proper food storage in provided metal lockers is mandatory. The campground operates seasonally, typically from May through October.

Directions

From Fresno, follow California State Highway 180 East to its end at Cedar Grove. Canyon View Campground is located on the left (north) side of the road, 0.25 miles from Cedar Grove Village at mile marker 32.4.
