About

Big Meadow Campground is located 75 miles east of Fresno at an elevation of 7,500 feet within the Sequoia National Forest and Giant Sequoia National Monument. The campground is uniquely arranged into five separate units with approximately 5-9 campsites per unit, giving it a more primitive and secluded feel despite having standard amenities. Each unit has maintained vault toilets and trash dumpsters, and every individual site is equipped with a picnic table, metal fire ring, and bear-proof food storage box. The surrounding landscape features open meadows bordered by Lodgepole pines, Jeffrey pines, and Red fir. Big Meadows Creek runs through the area, providing opportunities for fly fishing. A nearby trailhead leads into the Jennie Lakes Wilderness, and Buck Rock Lookout at 8,500 feet is a short drive away. Horseback riders can access the Horse Corral Pack Station, and Hume Lake is approximately 15 miles from the campground for water activities. Note that potable water is not available at this campground; campers must bring their own water supply. Outside firewood is prohibited to prevent pest transport; purchase firewood locally. A camp host is stationed at site #7 during the operating season.

Directions

From the Generals Highway, turn onto Big Meadows Road (Forest Road 14S11). Follow this road approximately 5 miles; the campground is on the right side of the road. Note: A forest/park entrance permit is required when entering via Kings Canyon National Park.
