About
Gold Lake Campground is situated near the Cascade crest at the end of Gold Lake Road, with some of its 21 campsites located directly adjacent to the picturesque alpine lake. The campground attracts visitors seeking a quiet alpine forest setting, wildlife viewing, and late summer huckleberry picking. The adjacent Gold Lake bog is particularly notable for viewing deer, elk, and beaver in their natural habitat. The 100-acre, 25-foot-deep lake offers fly-fishing only for brook and rainbow trout. Gas motors are prohibited, but electric motors are allowed at slow no-wake speeds, and non-motorized craft such as canoes and float tubes are permitted. A boat launch is available in the day-use area. A distinctive feature of the site is a historic Willamette Winged log shelter in the day-use area, designed by William Parke, the Willamette National Forest's first Recreation Planner, and constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1940s. The shelter provides day-use facilities in summer and overnight protection for cross-country skiers during winter. The campground's proximity to Willamette Pass Winter Recreation Area, the Pacific Crest Trail, Diamond Peak Wilderness, and Waldo Lake Wilderness makes it an ideal base for exploring the central Cascade Range.
Directions
From Oakridge, travel east on Highway 58 for 25.8 miles. Just below the summit of Willamette Pass (Gold Lake Sno Park will be on your right), turn left onto Gold Lake Road and travel 2 miles to the end of the road.
