Fuji Shelter is a primitive backcountry shelter in the Willamette National Forest, situated at approximately 5,600 feet elevation with commanding views of Diamond Peak and Salt Creek Canyon. The shelter provides winter access to numerous cross-country ski trails including Birthday Lakes, Pothole Meadows, Fuji Mountain, and Island Lakes. The shelter features a sleeping loft, wood stove for heating, wood picnic table, and gravel floor. There is no potable water, no restroom facilities, and all garbage and human waste must be packed out. Maximum overnight capacity is 4 people, and the shelter cannot be reserved as it must be shared with other visitors. Candles are prohibited; bring your own lighting. Access from Salt Creek Sno-Park involves a moderate to steep 1,500-foot climb over approximately 4 miles via Fuji Creek Road. An Oregon State Sno-Park Permit is required from November 1 through April 30 when accessing from either Salt Creek or Waldo Lake Sno-Parks.

Directions

From Oakridge, Oregon, travel eastbound on Oregon Highway 58 about 33 miles. Turn left just past mile marker 57 onto Forest Service Road 5894. Continue on this road for approximately 2.5 miles and the gated road to Fuji Shelter will be on your left. Winter access requires skiing or snowshoeing approximately 4 miles from Salt Creek Sno-Park.
