About

Thompson's Lake Campground occupies a forested setting at the southern end of Thacher State Park, centered around a quiet lake with a sandy beach. The 140 sites are spread between two loops with a mix of private wooded spots and more open adjacent configurations, all suitable for tents or RVs up to 40 feet. Standard amenities include flush restrooms, hot showers, a dump station, potable water, fire rings, and picnic tables. There are no electric, water, or sewer hookups at individual sites. The lake provides the primary draw beyond camping itself. A carry-in boat launch serves paddlers, and rentals for kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards are available. Swimming at the sandy beach is popular during summer months. On land, the campground connects to Thacher State Park's 25+ miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, including routes along the dramatic Helderberg Escarpment with its limestone cliffs and fossil beds. Interpretive programs run throughout summer, and the Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center adjacent to the campground offers exhibits and educational programming. Winter visitors can cross-country ski and ice fish. Reservations are handled through ReserveAmerica up to 9 months in advance, with a 14-night maximum consecutive stay.
