About

Cherry Plain State Park provides a quiet camping alternative in the scenic Taconic Valley of Rensselaer County. The 175-acre park sits along Black River Pond, offering campers direct access to a sandy beach and calm waters perfect for non-motorized boating. The campground features 30 total sites: 10 trailer sites, 10 lakeside tent sites for those wanting waterfront views, and 10 hike-in tent sites for a more secluded experience. Facilities include modern restrooms with showers, picnic tables, and fire rings at campsites. Rowboats and kayaks are available for rental at the pond. The surrounding woodland offers bridle paths and multi-use trails suitable for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing in winter. Fishing is permitted in Black River Pond, and seasonal hunting is allowed in designated areas. The campground operates seasonally from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica. Pets are welcome with a maximum of two per site, requiring proof of rabies vaccination and a 6-foot leash.
