Pittsfield State Forest campground sits within an expansive 11,000+ acre forest in the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts. The 40-site campground is divided between two distinct areas: the Parker Brook section at the base of Berry Mountain features a modern, ADA-accessible bathhouse with flush toilets and hot showers, while the Berry Pond area atop the mountain offers a more primitive backcountry feel with composting toilets only. Each campsite comes equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and food storage locker. Sites in the open field area can accommodate RVs up to 30 feet, while wooded tent sites are more compact. The campground has no hookups or dump station, making it best suited for tent camping and smaller self-contained RVs. Beyond camping, the forest offers extensive recreational opportunities including miles of hiking trails, a swimming area at Berry Pond (the highest natural body of water in Massachusetts), and 16 miles of trails open to ATVs and OHVs. The paved Tranquility Trail provides a wheelchair-accessible three-quarter mile loop. Massachusetts prohibits transporting firewood into DCR campgrounds; firewood must be purchased on-site.

Directions

From the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90), take Exit 2 (Lee) to Route 20 west. Follow signs into park. Turn right onto Hungerford Street, then left onto West Street to reach the campground entrance at 1041 Cascade Street, Pittsfield.
