About

Grafton Lakes State Park encompasses nearly 2,500 acres on the forested plateau between the Taconic and Hudson Valleys in Rensselaer County, New York. The park features six ponds, including Long Pond with its large sandy swimming beach that serves as a popular summer attraction. Anglers can fish for rainbow and brown trout in Long, Second, and Shaver Ponds, while pickerel, perch, and bass are abundant in all ponds. The Martin-Durham Reservoir also offers walleye fishing. All ponds have launch facilities for canoes, sailboats, rowboats, and electric boats. The park offers over 25 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding through diverse terrain. Six pavilions and tent structures are available for day-use rental, accommodating groups from 40 to 150 people. The Welcome Center provides nature education and exhibition spaces, with environmental programs offered throughout the year. In winter, the trails are groomed for snowmobiling, and visitors enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, and ice fishing when conditions permit. Snowshoe rentals are available at the Welcome Center. The park is open year-round from 8:00 am until sunset, with seasonal entrance fees charged from May through Columbus Day. It is important to note that Grafton Lakes State Park does not have overnight camping or campsite facilities; it is strictly a day-use park.
