Special Weather Statement issued May 3 at 3:18AM EDT by NWS Albany NY

3:18 AM — 7:00 PM

The combination of drying fine fuels, northwest wind gusts between 20 and 30 mph, and relative humidity values between 25 and 35 percent will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread late this morning into this afternoon for the Mid-Hudson Valley, eastern Catskills, Taconics, Greater Capital District, and Lake George-Saratoga regions in eastern New York. As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn restrictions.

About

Narrow Island, also known as the Mother Bunch Group, is a collection of island campsites located in the northern part of Lake George near the base of Black Mountain. The campground offers 85 boat-access-only shoreline campsites spread across multiple state-owned islands in the northern section of America's Queen Lake. Each campsite is well forested and private, featuring a dock for one boat, fireplace, picnic table, and toilet facility. Lake George stretches 32 miles long and up to 3 miles wide with a maximum depth of 195 feet, offering excellent recreational boating, paddling, and fishing opportunities. The lake's long, narrow shape makes it susceptible to hard winds and fast storms, so boaters should monitor weather conditions closely. Hiking trails lead to mountains overlooking the lake and remote mountain ponds, with over 50 miles of marked trails in the area. The islands provide a unique camping experience in the Adirondack Park with opportunities for fishing, hiking, bird watching, boating, and sailing. Campers must access the islands by boat from private marinas, which typically charge parking and launch fees. After launching, visitors check in at the Narrow Island Group headquarters. The campground was developed in the late 1930s and 1940s, with much of the construction completed by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
