About
Glen Island campground offers a distinctive camping experience on Lake George, known as America's Queen Lake. Part of the Lake George Islands system managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Glen Island is accessible only by boat, providing a remote and peaceful camping experience. The campground features 170 well-forested shoreline campsites distributed across state-owned islands in The Narrows area east of Bolton Landing, plus 42 specialized cruiser sites designed for large boats with sleeping quarters, and 25 mainland sites that are also boat-access-only. Each campsite comes equipped with a private dock for one boat, a fireplace, picnic table, and privy toilet facility. Cruiser sites additionally provide a charcoal burner. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring Lake George's 32-mile length, with opportunities for fishing, boating, hiking, bird watching, and swimming from designated beach areas. The lake offers some of the best recreational boating in the Northeast, though boaters should be aware of variable weather conditions and water depths. Campers must launch from a private marina (fees apply for parking and launching) and check in at the Glen Island ranger station. The campground operates from mid-May through early October, with reservations strongly recommended as sites book well in advance through ReserveAmerica.
