Long Island

Closed

Closed for the season. Opens May 15 and operates through October 12. Reservations available via ReserveAmerica, with same-day reservations permitted until 5pm on day of arrival.

Special Weather Statement issued May 3 at 3:18AM EDT by NWS Albany NY

3:18 AM — 7:00 PM

The combination of drying fine fuels, northwest wind gusts between 20 and 30 mph, and relative humidity values between 25 and 35 percent will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread late this morning into this afternoon for the Mid-Hudson Valley, eastern Catskills, Taconics, Greater Capital District, and Lake George-Saratoga regions in eastern New York. As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn restrictions.

About

Long Island is part of the Lake George Islands campgrounds managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Located near Lake George Village at the southern basin of the lake, this 100-acre island offers 90 shoreline campsites accessible exclusively by boat. Each campsite includes a private dock for one boat, a fireplace, picnic table, and primitive toilet facility. Most sites are well-forested and offer privacy. Campers must launch from a private marina (parking and launch fees apply) and check in at the island headquarters. The island provides opportunities for fishing, boating, sailing, swimming, and hiking. Lake George is 32 miles long and up to 3 miles wide, offering exceptional recreational opportunities but can experience hard winds and fast storms. Campers should be mindful of weather conditions and have appropriate watercraft for lake conditions.

Directions

Lake George is accessible from I-87 (Adirondack Northway) using exits 20-25 and 28. Long Island Group is located on the south end of the lake near Lake George Village. Access requires launching from a private marina (parking and launch fees apply). Boat access only.
