About

Sawmill Flat Campground is a remote, free campground in the Sierra National Forest that serves primarily as a hunters' camp. Nestled in a forest of pine, cedar, manzanita, and bear clover, the campground offers a rustic experience for those seeking solitude. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, and vault toilets are available. This is a primitive, pack-it-in-pack-it-out facility with no potable water or garbage service. The nearest services are at Dinkey Creek Inn and Store, approximately 15.5 miles away, which offers a small grocery, fishing supplies, lunch counter, and pay showers. The campground is located in bear country, so proper food storage is required. Access involves a combination of paved, dirt, and gravel roads. From Shaver Lake, take Dinkey Creek Road east for 12.5 miles, turn right on McKinley Grove Road (11S40), travel 12.5 miles to road 11S12, then continue 3.1 miles to the campground.
