About
Mill Flat Campground is a small, primitive campground with just five campsites positioned along the Kings Wild and Scenic River at 1,100 feet elevation within Giant Sequoia National Monument in Sequoia National Forest. The campground's location on the river makes it particularly popular with whitewater rafting enthusiasts, as the Kings River offers Class III rapids in this section. The region features trails open to hikers, horses, and mountain bikes outside of designated wilderness areas, winding up mountains and alongside wild rivers. This is a true backcountry experience with minimal amenities. No drinking water is available on-site, so campers must bring adequate supplies. Vault toilets and picnic tables are provided at each campsite. The campground is unsuitable for trailers due to access road conditions. Special food storage rules are in effect as this is active black bear country. Campfire permits are required for all campfires, barbeques, and camp stoves, and fire restrictions may be enforced during hot, dry conditions. Access requires driving 47 miles east from Fresno on CA 180 to Piedra Road, then 17 miles on Trimmer Springs Road (Forest Road 11S12), crossing the river to the south, and continuing east on Davis Road (Forest Road 12S01). The remote location and light usage level make this an ideal destination for those seeking solitude along one of California's most scenic wild rivers.
