About
Green Cabin Flat Campground is an undeveloped dispersed camping area located along the wild and scenic Kings River in the Hume Lake Ranger District of Sierra National Forest. At just 1,000 feet elevation, this low-elevation site offers year-round camping opportunities in a secluded setting. The campground serves as a popular staging area for whitewater rafting adventures down to Pine Flat Reservoir, featuring Class III rapids that challenge paddlers along the Kings River. Despite its remote location requiring significant travel time from major roads, Green Cabin Flat experiences heavy use from visitors seeking a primitive camping experience in black bear country. The site provides vault toilets but no potable water, requiring campers to bring their own supply or treat water from the river. Special food storage regulations are strictly enforced due to active black bear populations in the area. While this area is secluded and requires considerable travel time to visit giant sequoia groves, its riverside location and whitewater access make it a destination for river enthusiasts and campers seeking solitude along one of California's most scenic waterways.
