About

Kirch Flat Group Campground occupies a large sandy flat on the banks of the Kings River where it meets Pine Flat Reservoir. At roughly 1,000 feet elevation, the site is shaded by oak and pine trees and offers views of the surrounding Sierra Nevada foothills and river canyon. The campground is a single group site that accommodates up to 50 people with a maximum of 14 vehicles. The Kings River draws whitewater enthusiasts from late April through mid-July, offering a ten-mile run with Class III and IV rapids. Put-ins are available at Winfrey Mine and Garnet Dike upstream. Fishing and swimming in the river are popular activities, though the current can be deceptively strong. Several hiking trails access the Wild and Scenic portion of the Kings River upstream. This is a primitive campground with vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables. There is no potable water, trash service, or cell coverage. The nearest services are in Sanger, about 45 miles and 1.5 hours away. Be aware that poison oak and rattlesnakes are common in the area.
