About
Located at approximately 1,000 feet elevation on the Kings River, Kirch Flat Campground occupies a large sandy flat area surrounded by rolling, oak-covered foothills with spectacular views of the river canyon and Sierra Nevada mountains. The campground offers 17 first-come, first-served campsites with good shade provided by oak and pine trees throughout the area. This campground is particularly popular with San Joaquin Valley residents, fishermen, day users, and whitewater rafting enthusiasts who come to enjoy the challenging rapids and beautiful canyon scenery of the Kings River. While it can be very hot during summer months, Kirch Flat is an excellent camping destination during spring and fall. Several whitewater rafting companies operate in the area from April through July. Campers should note that Kirch Flat operates on a pack-it-in, pack-it-out program with no running water or trash service provided. Visitors should bring their own water and garbage bags. The nearest services are in Sanger, approximately 45 miles away. Cell phone coverage is not available at the campground, though reception can be found about 10 minutes away. Watch for rattlesnakes and poison oak in the area.
