About

Savanna Portage Group Campground offers an exclusive group camping experience on Savanna Lake within the 15,818-acre Savanna Portage State Park. Located in a secluded mixed pine and oak forest, this primitive group site accommodates up to 30 people and features terraced camping areas overlooking the lake. The drive-in campground permits small trailers and campers, making it accessible for groups with various camping setups. The group camp includes a boat landing providing direct access to Savanna Lake, which is restricted to electric trolling motors only. Anglers can fish for northern pike, bass, and panfish, while the beach and dock area offer swimming opportunities. The park's historic significance centers on the Savanna Portage Trail, once traveled by fur traders, Dakota and Ojibwe Indians, and explorers over 200 years ago. Savanna Portage State Park sits on the Continental Divide, where water flows either west to the Mississippi River or east to Lake Superior. The park features rolling hills, lakes, and tamarack peat bogs within a northern hardwood forest dominated by birch, aspen, and conifers. Wildlife viewing opportunities include loons, waterfowl, and various forest species throughout the park's extensive trail system.

Directions
