About
Pokegama Dam Campground is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and sits in the heart of northern Minnesota's lake country next to the Mississippi River. The campground offers 22 sites total: 19 extra-large electric back-in sites with 50/30 amp service, two primitive hike-in tent sites, and one day-use picnic shelter with electric. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire grill. The well-equipped facility features flush toilets, showers, drinking water, and a dump station. A boat ramp provides direct access to the Mississippi River and Pokegama Lake, where anglers can target walleye, northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegills, and sunfish. A fish cleaning station and playground round out the amenities. The surrounding forest of mixed hardwoods and towering red pines houses abundant wildlife including bald eagles, porcupines, black bears, and chipmunks. Wild blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries grow seasonally on the forest floor. Nearby attractions include the Judy Garland Museum, Forest History Center, and Mesabi Bike Trail.
