This includes the Tribal Lands of the Fond du Lac Band, the Mille Lacs Band, Big Sandy Lake, Hinckley, Lena Lake and, East Lake areas and the Bois Forte Band, Lake Vermilion, Deer Creek and, Nett Lake areas. Other locations including Voyageurs National Park. This also includes the Boundary Waters western area. * WHEN...Until noon CST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

Savanna Portage State Park Campground sits on the shores of Lake Shumway in northern Minnesota, offering 61 semi-modern campsites within a historic wilderness setting. The campground features 18 electric hookup sites available during peak season and 43 non-electric sites available year-round. Located along the historic Savanna Portage Trail, once traveled by fur traders, Dakota and Ojibwe Indians, and explorers over 200 years ago, the park encompasses 15,818 acres of diverse landscape including rolling hills, mixed hardwoods, pines, lakes, and bogs. The campground includes modern sanitation facilities with flush toilets and showers, a dump station, and firewood available for purchase. Additional camping options include six primitive backpack sites, one canoe-in site, one group camp on Savanna Lake, and a seasonal camper cabin. The park offers extensive recreational opportunities including 27 miles of hiking trails, fishing access via a pier near the campground, swimming beach, and lakes restricted to electric trolling motors only. Winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and access to 32 miles of snowmobile trails.

Directions

Savanna Portage State Park is located 17 miles northeast of McGregor, Minnesota. From McGregor, take State Highway 65 north for approximately 11 miles, then turn east onto County Road 14 and continue for about 6 miles to the park entrance.
