About

Sandy Beach is one of Glendo State Park's most popular summer destinations, featuring a wide white-sand beach on the eastern shore of the reservoir with panoramic views of Laramie Peak to the west. The campground is divided into two areas: Sandy Beach Dune with 67 campsites and Sandy Beach Willow with additional sites ranging from established pads to primitive sand locations. Dune Campground offers electrical sites at positions 1-19, 1457, and 1458 with established camping pads and minimal shade. Group rings accommodate multiple units with electrical hookups. Willow Campground features back-in style sites with established pads at 1501-1521, while sites 1522 and above are situated in deep sand with varying shade levels. Both areas include designated tent-only sites. Seven ADA-accessible camping pads and seven vault toilets serve the area. Due to significant seasonal shifts in reservoir water levels, sites closer to the water may become inaccessible in April, May, and June due to flooding. By July and August, water levels recede significantly, sometimes creating a quarter-mile of beach between campgrounds and the waterline. Many sites in deep sand are best accessed with smaller camping units and 4WD vehicles.
