About

Salmon La Sac Campground is a heavily-used gathering place for families and outdoor enthusiasts in Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, situated between the Cle Elum and Cooper Rivers at 2,300 feet elevation. The campground features 67 sites accommodating both tent and RV camping, with 40 sites available for reservation and 27 first-come, first-served. Some sites are pull-through to accommodate larger vehicles. Each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. The location provides excellent access to diverse recreational activities. Anglers target rainbow and cutthroat trout and kokanee salmon in the rivers. The Waptus River Trail begins within walking distance, traversing forested terrain lined with blueberries to reach Hour Creek at 3 miles and continuing another 6 miles to Waptus Lake with views of Summit Chief Mountain. The Pacific Crest Trail is accessible nearby. Swimming, horseback riding, and mountain biking are popular in summer and early fall. The surrounding Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest features high glaciated alpine peaks, old growth valleys, and diverse wildlife including deer, porcupine, and migratory birds. During winter months when the campground is closed to camping, the nearby Salmon La Sac Sno-Park provides access to groomed cross-country ski trails through the area.

Directions

From Cle Elum, travel north on Highway 903/Salmon La Sac Road for 19 miles. Stay left on Salmon La Sac Road to the campground on the left, just past Cayuse Campground. From Seattle, take I-90 east for 80 miles to exit 80 toward Salmon La Sac. Turn left on Bullfrog Road, continue to the 2nd traffic circle and take the second exit onto WA-903 north, then continue onto Salmon La Sac Road.
