About
Cle Elum River Group Campground is located within the larger Cle Elum River Campground area, situated along its namesake river in Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Set in a mixed-conifer forest at an elevation of 2,300 feet and surrounded by high mountains, this campground offers a large reservable site suitable for large family and group camping excursions of up to 100 people. The Cle Elum River area is a prime location for outdoor recreation. Anglers will find the waters teeming with rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, and kokanee salmon in both the river and nearby Cle Elum Lake. The area offers excellent hiking, fishing, swimming, and birding in summer and early fall. The spectacular Pacific Crest Trail is accessible near the campground. Speelyi Beach, featuring a wide sandy beach on Cle Elum Lake surrounded by conifer forest, provides a great day-use destination for swimming and kayaking. The campground is set within the diverse Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, which features high, glaciated alpine peaks, valleys of old growth forest, and rugged shrub-steppe country. The surrounding undeveloped wilderness, clean streams, and diverse forests support an abundance of wildlife, including deer, porcupine, native fish, and migratory birds. During winter months when the campground is closed, the adjacent French Cabin Creek Sno-Park accommodates skiers, snowshoers, and snowmobilers.
